Down in Franklin County, Tennessee, where my mother was born, there is a gorgeously scenic natural bridge that reminds me of the lace in this shawl. Sewanee is a triangular shawl knit from the top down, and designed to be knitted with an average skein of sock yarn. Of course, gauge isn’t crucial on this, so you can change your yarn and needles to create any size shawl you’d like - just remember to account for more yardage!

Thanks to zeecy and ivyadrena for test knitting, and to Judy Gibson for the border pattern.

Clarification: “(p1, k1) into yos of previous row” in the lace pattern means that you will purl into the first yo and knit into the second yo. “Purl, working (p1, k1) in yo” on Row 100 means that you will both knit and purl into the same yo.
