Many years ago I used the shadow cable stitch to make, what became, my favourite blanket. The blanket is now well past it’s best but stilled loved for the comfort it brings. This cowl pattern is a condensed version of the blanket pattern but I hope it brings you the same comfort my blanket brings to me.

Skill Level:
Advanced beginner. The pattern is written in a line by line format. Skills needed are knitting in the round, the knit stitch, the purl stitch and basic cables.

Finished Size:
30cm high x 25cm, approx.

Supplies:
50cm circular needles in recommended needle size and one size smaller.
Stitch marker (optional).
Darning needle to sew in ends.
180m / 196yds - 200m / 219yds chunky yarn to make the sizes shown above.

Tension:
Approximately 14 stitches and 20 rows = 10cm, in stocking stitch.
I have knitted this in various chunky yarns with differing tensions and they all worked out fine. There were slight differences in size but not enough to make a noticeable difference.

Now for the the boring bit.
