The Ruana that I have designed is knit in three sections. Each section uses a slightly different garter stripe sequence although the same mosaic chart is used throughout. The back starts off with a black/white mosaic border done in shadow mosaic followed by the same mosaic done in color up the center of the back and flanked by 2-color garter stripes. I offer two designs for the front panels. One option uses the same mosaic border, followed in color with the same mosaic and flanked by sections of garter stripes. The other front panel is done entirely in the 2-color garter stripe. The second one showcases the reversibility of the garter stripe when worn with one side slung over the opposite shoulder, as a Ruana is often worn. Even if worn hanging straight down, I like the asymmetry. You can choose, however, to use the mosaic/garter stripe combo for BOTH front panels. Just make sure that you follow the instructions for one Right Shaping and one Left Shaping front panel.
