5 ‘Shape Pals’ - with lots of potential uses!

The pattern includes instructions for all 5 ‘Pals’ - based on circle, triangle, square, pentagon and hexagon shapes with ‘twirls’ for the arms/legs.

These could be used as a bag decoration/key fob/zipper pull/ fidget toy/fridge magnet or as motifs for a banner, hung from a mobile or used as applique on a larger project! Or maybe make them into badges/hang from a lanyard and use to identify members of a team.

Maybe you could make several sets in different colours and use for sorting/matching/counting activities - e.g. Find all the red ones. Find all the triangles. How many Square Pals can you find?

A set of the 5 designs took about 17g of Hobbii Rainbow 8/4 cotton with a 2.5mm hook with individual Pals taking between 3 & 4g each. They are about 3” tall made with the suggested yarn/hook. You can of course make these with other yarn weights - just use the appropriate hook for your yarn, for best results use a hook size slightly smaller than recommended on the yarn label - size will vary accordingly!

Other than the square, these are worked in the round with a mixture of continuous and joined rounds. They are each made in one piece with the arm/leg twirls and hanging loop made as part of the final round.

If they might be handled by young children - embroidered or crocheted eyes are recommended. Instructions for crocheted eyes are included. 12mm self-adhesive/glue-on googly eyes were used in the examples in the main photo.

I’d love to see what you do with items made from this pattern - there are so many possibilities! Please link any projects you post on Ravelry back to this pattern page/give me a mention if you post a picture online.

I’m planning some other patterns with a ‘Shape and Colour’ theme - I’ll post updates on my Facebook page - you are very welcome to come & visit!
