To paraphrase a great pop song, if you like it then you should’ve put a frill on it. And oh, what a frill the Sharalanda socks have.

With a simple eyelet lace pattern topped off with a great big frill, these socks know how to make a statement. They’re graded to be worked either with or without mohair held together with a 4ply sock yarn, and in sizes ranging from baby up to XXL adult.

Worked from the toe up, they knit up with surprising speed. And their simple German short row heel makes them as much fun to knit as they are to wear.

Key information
The Sharalanda socks are knitted toe-up, in the round. You can use either double pointed needles (DPNs), or a long circular using the magic loop technique.

The heel of the sock is turned using a German short row heel. The pattern contains links to tutorials showing exactly how to work German short rows, so even if you’ve never used them before, or have never turned a heel, you can see just what to do.

The Sharalanda socks come in 8 sizes, ranging from baby to XXL adult. The pattern is written so that you can use the same instructions whether you’re using mohair or not – just be sure you’re following the correct instructions for your chosen stitch count.
The table in the photos shows which stitch count to choose for your yarn weight and preferred size.

Instructions are written as 28sts (32sts, 36sts, 44sts) 48sts, 52sts, 60sts {68sts, 76sts, 84sts}.

Suggested yarn: The pink sample is knitted in Regia Premium Silk 4ply sock yarn (400m per 100g) in the Rose (31) colourway, held together with Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair (212m per 25g) in the Kitt (1015) colourway.
The dark blue sample is knitted in Regia Premium Merino Yak 4ply sock yarn (400m per 100g) in the Midnight Blue Mix colourway (07515).

Gauge:
For the 4ply and mohair socks: 26 sts and 34 rounds to 10cm (4in), measured over stocking stitch on 3mm needles, knit in the round.
For the 4ply-only socks: 34 sts and 42 rounds to 10cm (4in), measured over stocking stitch on 2.25mm, knit in the round.

Yarn requirements:
All sizes can be worked from one 100g/400m skein of 4ply yarn. If you’re working with mohair held together with the 4ply, then you’ll need two 25g/212m skeins of the mohair for all sizes from teen/small adult and up.

Suggested needles (and notions):
For the 4ply and mohair socks: 3mm (US 2.5) double pointed needles, or long circular for magic loop, stitch markers, tapestry needle.
For the 4ply only socks: 2.25mm (US 1) double pointed needles, or long circular for magic loop, stitch markers, tapestry needle.
