WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT?
The Stella Shawl is the perfect hybrid between a wide shawl and a delicate cape, designed to bring vintage elegance and a subtle retro air to any look. With a clean, geometric construction worked back and forth in rows, this pattern shows that you don’t need complex stitches to achieve a sophisticated finish. It is the ideal piece to accompany your summer evenings or to completely elevate a special occasion, thanks to its fluid drape and its play of light.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE: This pattern is designed exclusively for KNITTING WITH TWO NEEDLES. It is not a crochet guide. If you are used to my crochet patterns, this is the perfect project to fall in love with knitting needles, with a clear design and a super detailed step-by-step!
WHAT DOES THIS PATTERN INCLUDE?
Everything you need to enjoy knitting without complications or frustrations:
- A downloadable 20-page PDF with all the step-by-step explanations and clear instructions to knit your Stella Shawl.
- A friendly, visual format designed so you can knit at your own pace and with complete ease. It includes diagrams and photos.
WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED?
1. This design is worked with two strands held together, which gives a Worsted weight of 10 WPI. Keep this in mind if you are substituting the materials. For the Shawl in the photos, I used:
• 150 grams / 330 meters of Viva by Symfonie Yarns from KnitPro in the color Mirror (DK weight, 14 WPI)
• 100 grams / 280 meters of Stella x HSO in the color Pebble Glow (Fingering weight, 20 WPI)
- Circular knitting needles, 6.5 mm. I recommend a 150 cm cable.
- Measuring tape to measure your gauge swatch.
- Tapestry needle and scissors.
- 8 stitch markers.
WHAT SIZES DOES THIS PROJECT COME IN?
Since this is an accessory, the shawl is written in one size only.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
The basics of knitting with two needles: simple long tail cast on (or the one of your choice), knit stitch, purl stitch, yarn over increases, and the traditional bind off.
*** I do not use abbreviations in my knitting guides, so following the written instructions is very easy. You will never run into complicated acronyms. ***
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
- Structure: You will learn to create a hybrid silhouette (between a shawl and a cape) through sections that grow harmoniously.
- Top-down construction: An accessory worked in one piece from the neckline down, flat, in rows worked back and forth.
- The power of basic stitches: You will discover how the smart combination of stockinette stitch and garter stitch is enough to create a garment with a beautiful drape and movement.
- Layout of sections and increase columns: You will master the logic of structuring the body of the shawl in stockinette stitch sections and columns that mark the increases. This and much more in this complete guide to knitting with two needles!
If you have any questions about this information or the design, you can write to me at hola@hellosoyolivia.cl. I will be happy to help you.
