Click the link to receive instructions on how to convert just about any shawl into a gaiter! Any shawl, as long as it’s got a top edge, can be converted to a gaiter. It doesn’t matter if the shawl is worked top down or side to side, triangular or semicircular, symmetrical or asymmetrical, or if that top edge is scooped or perfectly flat.

What’s a gaiter, you say? It’s part kerchief, part neck warmer, part cowl, and just as versatile as you want it to be!

Choosing four of my shawl patterns (you can use any shawl pattern you like; I was just trying to cover as many bases as I could on the various configurations of shawls), I show how each one easily converts to a gaiter. This could come in handy if you’re short of yarn, just want a quick project, or need to make a gift in a hurry. Additionally, if you don’t yet feel comfortable adapting a pattern to make it into something else, this could help you gain the confidence you need and put your talents to use!
