This hat was designed to match the Sherbourne Cowl, itself reminiscent of Elizabethan collars. Both are named after Sherbourne New Castle in Dorset, which was built by Sir Walter Raleigh on the estate in Sherbourne Dorset, leased to him by Queen Elizabeth I. The original Lodge has been added to over the centuries and Capability Brown redesigned the parkland in the 18th Century.
