This is a pattern for an adult-sized, unisex scarf knitted in alternating sections of seed stitch and garter stitch, with tassels added afterward.

The model scarf was knitted by BlushingNewb to celebrate the third season of the BBC’s Sherlock and it accompanied a Sherlock fanfiction co-written by BlushingNewb and HiddenLacuna called “The Case of the Disparate Die Lots.”

The design was inspired by the scarf worn by the BBC’s prickly Sherlock Holmes (played by Benedict Cumberbatch). The authors of “Die Lots” thought that Sherlock might just wear a knitted accessory…if Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs) made it for him.

The scarf can be easily modified in both length and width, and the pattern is completely free and always will be. The original scarf used a worsted 100% wool yarn (non-superwash) but it is highly likely that any worsted weight yarn will yield satisfactory results as long as you check for gauge and drape.

The pattern is downloadable from BlushingNewb’s website in PDF format.

Caution: wearing this scarf will not ward off spiders or sharks. Or dragons.
