These socks are knit with Jamieson & Smith Worsted Aran Weight yarn. As the yarn is worsted spun it is strong, hardwearing and smooth. The sock is knit from the top down and features a traditional Fair-isle pattern on the leg with a plain foot and afterthought heel. This design is perfect if you want to try Fair-isle colourwork and socks for the first time. The pattern comes in 3 sizes but you can alter the sock length by adding or subtracting rows to the foot. If you would like to try the sock on as you go it’s possible to knit the heel before the foot is complete so you can check the length. The smallest size uses 3 x 50g balls of the main colour (Shetland Black) and the 2 bigger sizes uses 4 x 50g balls. The Fair-isle pattern only uses a few grams of each colour. I have used the magic loop method but you could easily use short DPN’s if you prefer. As these are Aran weight they are super warm!
