Beginning with a contrast tipping, the 1 x 1 rib gives a snug fit around the wrist. Moving onto bands of tradition Fair Isle designs that are worked from a chart.

The top of the design opens out for the widest part of the hand and worked in the classic feather and fan design. This is created using increasing and decreasing techniques along the row to make the lace pattern. Each repeat of is worked in a contrast colour. The cuff is finished with a garter stitch edge and delicate picot cast off.

Worked in rows throughout from the bottom up, and sewn together using the mattress stitch method to ensure that the bands of colour match up.

Full instructions are given for each technique, and step-by-step guide for the Fair Isle and sewing up methods.

The pattern is written using UK terms throughout.
