Worked in a very fine wool, the shawl combines several of the loveliest Shetland lace patterns. Some of these have smooth stockinette elements; others have a more textured garter stitch base. At the outer edges of the shawl a distinctive scalloped edging meets the undulating border pattern. The unique smaller patterns range from geometric shapes to rounded, flower-like motifs at the center. Construction and finishing are also done in the Shetland manner. The shawl is knitted in sections and grafted with the characteristic mitered corners. It is stretched during blocking to open the lace patterns to their full beauty.
