This pretty lace shawl will add a touch of glamour to a summer dress after the sun goes down, or an elegant addition to a plain shirt and smart jeans. Worked top-down from a garter tab start, the triangular shawl begins with traditional Shetland motifs, which then blend into an open lacework pattern. Hundreds of beads are added with a crochet hook (or your preferred method of adding beads as you work) to add sparkle.

After blocking the shawl measures 31” (79cm) down the central spine and 62” (158cm) along the top edge. Pattern tension is based on one pattern repeat of Section A1, which should measure 1½” (3.5cm) wide and 1” (2.5cm) high after blocking. Achieving this exact tension is not vital but it may affect the finished size of your shawl and the yarn yardage required.

The pattern includes both charts and fully written instructions. It is not necessary to use charts to work this design.

You will need: 900 yards (823m) lace weight yarn
3.25mm (US 3) knitting needles
4 stitch markers (plus extra for between pattern repeats if desired)
Darning needle
550 beads size 8/0 (to allow for damages) - only if beading
0.75mm (US size) crochet hook (for adding beads) - only if beading

You need to be able to:work common lace increases and decreases (yarn over, k2tog, p2tog, SSK, centred double decreases, kfb), work from charted or written instructions, if applicable add beads using crochet hook method or similar.
