Shimmering Wave Socks
Introducing Shimmering Wave Socks! The 3rd pattern in my seasonal brioche sock collection. These socks were inspired by beachy waves, sand dunes and the way sunlight glints off the surface of the ocean - stranded colorwork ‘shimmers’ and single pass brioche waves.
This sock is worked top down & in the round.
8 sizes available. 56 (60, 64, 68, 72, 76, 80, 84) stitches
The front of leg is worked in single pass brioche using a 24 row chart. The back of leg is worked in stranded knitting using a 12 row chart.
An additional 14 row alternate chart B is included for those that wish to have a bit more visual interest on the back of the leg and sole of foot.
I used SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock for my sample sock in the colorway Birch and Spun Right Round Classic Sock in the colorway Car Wash. Any fingering weight sock yarn would be suitable for this pattern. I recommend a 100g skein of each color to ensure you have enough yarn.
Please note the pattern uses charts for the single pass brioche instep and the stranded colorwork.
These are very stretchy socks, and do not fit as tightly as traditional colorwork socks. Keep this in mind when choosing a size. You can also eliminate stranded stitches if necessary.
I recommend this pattern for those who are comfortable with brioche, chart knitting, and colorwork.
Gauge - the recommended gauge for the brioche is 8spi and the stranded is 9spi. The stitch gauge doesn’t matter as much as the row gauge - if you need help calculating the size of your socks based on your gauge message me. Try to get the row gauge as similar as possible for the best finished project.
There are many charts for this pattern, if you like to print patterns, please note that the charts are grouped by size so you can print the main pattern and then on the two pages for your size sock.
