Shirahoshi, “the white star”: the name of a mermaid princess, and of a shawl born of the sea.

Legend has it that she lives at the very bottom of the ocean, immense and shy, long shut away in her tower, dreaming of the surface and the sky she has never seen. This shawl is the path that leads to her.

It begins with a tip, barely a few stitches, in the clear water where the light still dances. Then it stretches out, row after row, and drifts gently down toward the deep blue of the abyss. In its wake, bubbles rise: alone at first, hesitant, then two by two, little pearls of light that slip away toward the surface and scatter their glow across the sections.

Garter stitch, two colors, German short rows: nothing more. A simple, rhythmic knit, soft to wear, and the sea wrapping itself around your neck.

Shirahoshi, « l’étoile blanche » : le nom d’une princesse sirène, et celui d’un châle né de la mer.

On raconte qu’elle vit tout au fond de l’océan, immense et timide, longtemps enfermée dans sa tour, à rêver de la surface et du ciel qu’elle n’a jamais vus. Ce châle est le chemin qui mène jusqu’à elle.

Il commence par une pointe, quelques mailles à peine, dans l’eau claire où danse encore la lumière. Puis il s’étire, rang après rang, et descend doucement vers le bleu profond des abysses. Dans son sillage montent des bulles : seules d’abord, hésitantes, puis deux par deux, petites perles de clarté qui s’échappent vers la surface et sèment leur éclat au fil des sections.

Du point mousse, deux couleurs, des rangs raccourcis à l’allemande : rien de plus. Un tricot simple et rythmé, doux à porter, et la mer qui s’enroule autour du cou.
