Shockingly Short
This pattern results from the challenge to eke out a narrow shawl or scarf from just 6 minis - is it possible?
This is what I came up with and I want to share the fun with everyone.
The construction is very simple - a long narrow triangular wedge, one side of increases, one of decreases, and one I-cord-bind-off. It’s made with easy, beginner-friendly stitches and up to 6 colors. You can use minis or just a bunch of scraps … all you need is to make sure there is a bit of contrast and they’re all the same yarn weight.
Pick 6 mini skeins in your favorite colors, 20 gr each in fingering weight, (77 yd or more) and a knitting needle that gives you a soft, pleasing fabric in garter stitch, download the pattern and start the fun with a slip knot.
Planning your color sequence is the best part and comes right at the beginning. The pattern provides room to play with your colored pencils. Pick enough contrast between sections for the dip stitch transition rows.
Working longer and longer rows with a limited amount of yarn makes for a bit of suspense … hence the name: Shockingly Short … the pattern is written so that you should not run out up to a gauge of 19 stitches per 10 cm / 4 inches.
Scroll down right here on the pattern page to see tutorial photos for carrying up the unused color, making the dip stitch and working the bind-off I-cord.
If you have any questions, drop me a PM.
Putting a photo of the thing you are stuck with right on your project page might help me see how I can help you better. And other knitters can find the information, too.
Have fun!
