Five or Six 100 yard gradient sets are used in this pattern with a background of 400 yards of a fingering weight yarn.

Short Rose is just her code name. She’s a lovely Irish lady, short in stature, who loves a cup of tea and a walk on Dun Laoghaire Pier. You’re liable to hear Short Rose exclaim, “I was “mart-i-fied!” (when wee grandson ran outside in Batman KAPOW! underwear to flash the neighbors) But sure, she loves pretty Fall colors, knitting, and a good natter. Short Rose is an intelligent, lovely lady, great fun, a fellow knitter, and computer whiz - and the namesake of this shawl. Oh, and there are also some short rows in this shawl, but no “wraps and turns” since the Irish lady (and the designer) aren’t fussy and prefer just to switch directions and carry on.

Short Rows is mostly garter and stockinette with a few slipped stitches for the first half of the shawl. Then it’s down to business where the gradient really begins, with simple short rows, lots of color and a non-threatening chevron lace repeat.
