Short Row Beach Ball
Knit a beach ball for summer, or make it a Christmas tree ornament to bring some warmth to winter!
This seamless beach ball pattern is knit sideways and flat with wrap and turn short rows for shaping, then the ends are grafted together.
This project is perfect for practicing short rows!
The ball is knit in multiple colored sections shaped with short rows. If you would like your beach ball to be larger and fuller, knit more sections before grafting.
Skills needed:
- Wrap and turn short rows
- Provisional cast on
- Kitchener Stitch grafting
- Changing color
My samples were knitted with a few grams of worsted weight acrylic yarn on 4mm needles. They have a circumference of 19cm/7.5in.
Gauge is not important, though different yarn and needle sizes will make your beach ball larger or smaller. To get a beach ball the size of a Christmas ornament, use yarn similar to mine.
You may use any yarn and needles, as long as your needles are small enough to create a dense fabric. For a beach ball color scheme, use red, blue, white, and yellow yarn.
You will also need stuffing, scrap yarn, scissors, and a yarn needle.
