Short Row Square Dishcloth II: The Reckoning
Knit another square dishcloth in the least-intuitive way!
This simple project uses basic wrap & turn short rows to make a square. This free .PDF walks you through three sizes, although this idea should work with any even number of stitches.
For easy travel and project management, after casting on, the whole project can be worked flat on a 16” circular needle. You can also use straight needles if you prefer.
Materials:
- 85-150 yds sportweight cotton, or finer cotton or linen yarns held together to approximate sportweight
- 1 16” circular needle—or one pair of straight needles—in US4/3.5mm, or size needed for gauge
- tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- crochet hook sized to suit yarn (B/2.25mm or preference)
- smooth spare yarn for provisional cast-on
Gauge:
Gauge is 21 sts and 40 rows over 4”/10cm of lightly blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.
Measurements:
As shown, this square dishcloth measures about 9.5(10.5, 11.5)”/24(27, 29)cm on each side.
