I first became aware of the potential of knitted shorteralls from Joyce M. Wang Wu’s pattern on Ravelry, #33 Overall Shorts but the sizing and original scale of her design was too small for me. This pattern is my update and homage to her original vision. I adjusted the scale and sizing a lot - they are much longer “overall” than her original design, and the front and back panels are wider. I sized the pockets deep enough for my phone, which is 6x3 inches. I am a size 9 and these are comfortably big on me. Also, sadly I had to lose the appliques. These are fun and fast to knit and I’ve gotten lots of compliments wearing these – people loved them at Oktoberfest! This is my first pattern and I owe a lot to Joyce for the construction.

I stuck with her original double vision of double strands of self-striping yarn with worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn (9 wpi). I used Red Heart Super Saver in “Earthy”

Joyce’s original pattern includes really helpful diagrams for assembling these. I have included some pictures of my finished shorteralls, but some may find her diagrams more helpful.
