From the book:

I came up with this set when I needed a dressy cotton cardigan for one of my daughters to wear to summer weddings. Of course at age 4, her favorite colors were pink and purple, so purple it was. Because it is worked in an easy eyelet flower pattern, with very simple, minimal shaping, it’s a good project for an advanced beginner who’s ready to try some slip-stitch and yarn-over patterns. the picot-trimmed kerchief is worked in stockinette stitch and can be finished in about an hour. For more wardrobe versatility, try knitting the entire outfit in white.
