Crochet cables look complicated but are simple to complete once you learn. Combining sequences of braided stitches, shells, popcorns, and cables, this pattern keeps each row interesting without too much complexity. Perfect for sharing with a loved one (side by side, of course) or cuddling up by yourself with a hot cup of your favorite beverage, the Side by Side Blanket provides the perfect combination of visual interest and pleasant simplicity.

This pattern can be crocheted using the written instructions or the charts provided. The pattern is a sequence of three charts: Chart A, Chart B, and Chart C. I have provided versions of Chart A for right-handed crocheters (read bottom to top, right to left) and left-handed crocheters (read bottom to top, left to right); Charts B and C may be read properly from either direction.

Pattern instructions will guide you through the first 16 rows of the blanket. From that point, you will have completed two setup rows and one full repeat of Chart C (the longest chart in this pattern). From there, it should be easy to read your work and determine where you are with each chart. You may “read” your braided cables in Chart A to determine your next steps on a front side (FS) row, and the two-row repeat of Chart B is incredibly simple to memorize. You will quickly find that you can always tell where you are simply by looking at your work – the best way to crochet.

Yardage requirement listed is a minimum estimate for the size that I achieved (roughly 72”). Longer blankets will require more yardage. Gauge, while given, is not vital for this pattern.

Video tutorials for the various components of this pattern, including how-tos for post stitches and cables, are coming soon to www.youtube.com/c/NSPDesigns. Users should note that these videos will be performed in left-handed crochet (I am a left-handed crocheter not blessed with ambidextrous talents).
