I originally designed this for my son who requested a sweater with a hood, a kangaroo pocket (optional in the pattern), some texture, but nothing too fancy. Side Squiggles has just enough detail to be stylish and interesting to knit, but subtle enough to not scare away a boy who likes things understated. Looks adorable on girls, too! (Just don’t tell my son, ok?)

Panels of “squiggles” run up the sides of the sweater and the undersides of the sleeves, meet at the raglan lines and continue up to the neckline. The neck opening and hood are also edged in squiggles.

Worked from the bottom-up, body and sleeves are knit in the round, then joined at the underarm. The raglan yoke is first knit in the round, then split at the neck opening and the remainder of the yoke and hood are knit flat.

In Glenhaven Worsted, yardage requirements for sizes 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12) are 830 (1000, 1170, 1290, 1420, 1570) yards.
