Combining easy cabling techniques and mosaic knitting, the Sidetracked Beanie is more complex looking than it is to knit! With just left twists, slipped stitches, and a single strand of yarn used to knit each row, this hat works up quickly into an impressive, textured swirl sure to impress your friends. Pair a semisolid with a variegated colorway to make it even more interesting!

Size:

  • Child, Adult Small/Medium, Adult Medium/Large

  • Approx 7.25” x 7.5”, (7.5” x 8”), (8” x 9”)/18.4 cm x 19 cm, (19 cm x 20.3 cm), (20.3 cm x 22.9 cm) unstretched

  • Pattern written to fit comfortably on a head circumference of 20.50”, (21.25”), (23”)/52.1 cm, (54 cm), (58.42 cm)

Needles & Materials:

  • 12” or 16”/30cm or 40 cm US size 8 circular needle and/or set of five 7”/18 cm US size 8 DPNs
  • Cable needle
  • Stitch markers for BOR, and as desired
  • Darning needle to weave in ends

Yarn:

  • Approximately 95 yds/87 m in MC or ~44 g
  • Approximately 60 yds/55 m in CC or ~27.5 g

Any worsted weight yarn will do!

Gauge:

  • 4.5 sts/inch/2 sts/cm in pattern, unstretched
