SIDEWAYS STRIPES SWEATER

The Sideways Stripes sweater is a lovely spring and summer sweater, and absolutely enjoyable to knit. Perfect for a coffee with friends, or with some luxury yarn as a chic pullover for a summer theater evening..
It is designed with a positive ease of 4cm / 1.5” around the bust and is then knitted straight down.

The sweater is knitted seamlessly in the round, starting at the top, having a refreshing shoulder construction. Stitches are picked up from the cast on edge of the back to form an invisible shoulder seam, but at the same time, the sleeves are knitted directly into the construction. So no picking up for the sleeves afterwards! Once it’s set up, it’s as easy as a raglan construction, but delivers a straight armhole line. You’ll find a link to a tutorial of the setup in the description.

Short rows are used to higher the back neck line, stitches for the front are picked up from the cast on row, which will function as the shoulder seam. The sleeves are as easy as a raglan construction and are worked in stockinette stitch.

The body of the sweater has alternating stripes of purl rounds and the sideways stripe, also called lateral braids or Estonian braids. They are both not complicated, and the stockinette rounds make it a rather thoughtless knit. It is absolutely fun knit!

To close the gap of the Sideways Stripe, you will have to cut your yarn and sew it close with one loop, there is an additional instruction video on this. It is easy and quick to do. In the sample, this was done 5 times on the body and 1 time at each sleeve.
