Crochet blanket featuring simple “star” shape motifs within hexagons. The pattern is suitable for most people with a bit of crochet experience.

There is a yarn pack for the Yarnsmiths Lagoon DK used available from Wool Warehouse, but it can be made in any yarn, it would make a great stash and scrap buster!

The blanket was inspired by a ‘5 Stans of the Silk Road’ tour that I was very fortunate to go on in the autumn of 2023. The motif design is based on star and multi-sided polygon shaped tiles on buidings in Uzbekistan. I have greatly simplified this to a very basic plain star in a hexagon, made using very easy stitches. I think the simplicity shows off the wonderful colour changes in the Lagoon yarn. The yarn shades I chose feature turquoises, blues, oranges and greens, joined with a sand stone shade, really represent different aspects of the 5 countries. The autumnal mountain scenery and apricot trees in Kyrgyzstan, Charyn Canyon in Kazakhstan, the tiled buildings of Uzbekistan, the beautiful mountain lakes in Tajikistan, and the flames of Darvaza gas crater in the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan.
