The Silvertongue Scarf, inspired by Lyra “Silvertongue” Belacqua of His Dark Materials, has been a labour of love since I binged the show with my sister this winter, feeling like an 11 year old again. The neatly rhythmical stitches of the pattern lead you into the magical world of childhood daydreams, with an elegant finish.

Silvertongue reaps the rewards of hours of searching stitch dictionaries for the unique stitch combination that appears like ribbing on one side and textured moss stitch on the other. The royal tassels add a touch of fantasy to this highly versatile piece.

Silvertongue is a quick knit, with easily memorisable pattern repeats that whizz off your needles in no time. The pattern instructions are provided in numerous formats to suit every knitter – written, charted, and filmed – allowing you to feel at ease in learning new techniques.

The explanations are comprehensive enough for this to be your first scarf, while the pattern is complex enough to be stimulating for the advanced knitter.

The pattern includes both written instructions and charts for the scarf itself, alongside a tassel stencil and video demonstrating how to create a tassel step by step.
