This cabled earflap hat is worked from the bottoms of the flaps up. The two earflaps are worked separately, back and forth, then joined in the round, with the rest of the hat cast on. The whole hat is symmetrical in a way that’s nonobvious from the front but still cuts the number of instructions in half.

10/27/11: Both sizes of pattern back up as a Ravelry download!

1/15/11: Major pattern overhaul! There are now two sizes of the pattern: the original pattern now includes all of the errata noted by other Ravelers, but more notably, it’s now the child size.

The adult size pattern should fit grown-up heads more readily, and is written in a somewhat more traditional style. However, note that any errors noted up until now in others’ pattern notes beyond Row 26 will only apply to the child size.
