This pattern is available for free.

To make this simple egg cosy you will additionally need a tapestry needle( to sew the ends), a marker, a row counter.
I used Rowan Pima cotton, but any DK wool or cotton will do.
I made mine in pastels colours and light grey.
Note: I use the magic loop technique to start, if preferred you can chain 2 and then put the sts in second loop.

Head:
R1: magic loop sc 4 sts
R2: sc 2 in each sc around (8 sts)
R3: sc 1, 2 sc in next sc, rep 4 times (12 sts)
R4: sc 2, 2 sc in the next sc, rep 4 times (16 sts)
R5: sc 3, 2 sc in the next sc,rep 4 times (20 sts)
R 6 -10 sc 20
Fasten off and weave in end

Ears:
R1: magic loop sc8 sts
R2-4: sc in each sc around
R5: sc 1, sk 1 sc 4 times ( 4 sts)
R6-7: sc around.
Fasten off and leave long end for sewing.
Sew on top sides of the head.
