The Möbius strip is a non-orientable surface with only one side and only one boundary. That sounds way more intense than it actually is as it’s just a twisted cylinder. If you’ve knit in the round before, you know to check your cast-on edge hasn’t twisted because the resulting piece would be non-orientable. However, what makes this cowl a true Möbius is that the cast-on edge isn’t just twisted, but allows you to knit both on the wrong and right-sides in one row! A great way to think about how the knits will work is the description on Wikipedia of an ant and a Möbius strip: “ A Möbius strip made with a piece of paper and tape. If an ant were to crawl along the length of this strip, it would return to its starting point having traversed the entire length of the strip (on both sides of the original paper) without ever crossing and edge.”

A fantastically simple knit, this möbius cowl will become your go-to knit for yourself or those last-minute presents throughout the year. The trickiest bit of the whole project is just casting on; after that, it’s just knitting, and the pattern creates itself!

This cowl has only 1 size, which should fit most people. As it is an accessory, obtaining the correct gauge is nice, but not of absolute importance. However, it would be better to have too few stitches per inch than too many.

Although the pattern is written for 300-400m of yarn, it can be knit with less; the depth of the cowl would just be shorter. You can stop knitting whenever you run out of wool, or reach a size you’re happy with.
