Some notes about sizing .. the pattern works in multiples of four. So if 40 stitches may be too large or small, you can size up or down in multiples of four.

I recommend:

32 stitches for kids
36 stitches for women
40 stitches for men

This is simply a tube, knit on circular needles and seamed at the top. You can modify the size by reducing or adding multiples of four.
