Simple Stripy Stockings
Step into Christmas with this festive footwear! Unlike traditional stockings, these mini makes are knitted flat, using only one colour at a time, with no fiddly fair isle or intricate intarsia. Measuring a teeny-tiny 10cm/4in from cuff to toe and using just 7g/¼oz of yarn, they can easily be completed in an evening, making them ideal for gifts, decorations and fundraising. Alternatively, why not knit a drawer full and turn your stock of socks into an heirloom advent calendar.
All pieces are knitted flat on straight needles. They’re then seamed using mattress stitch. The heel is turned using twin stitches and the pattern includes a step-by-step photo guide to this technique but you can also find a video here.
You’ll be pleased to know that this pattern has been reviewed by a professional technical editor to ensure that it’s super-easy to follow!
Materials
1 ball of Hayfield Bonus DK yarn (100g/3½oz/280m/306yds) in Pea Green, Signal Red and White
Oddments of yarn, string or ribbon to create a hanging loop
A pair of 2¾mm straight needles
A tapestry needle for sewing up
The boring bit…
This pattern is intended for personal use so it’s fine to print it out but please don’t sell it, share it on the internet or make multiple copies. What you can sell (more money for yarn – YAY!) is finished items made from this pattern so long as you’ve made them yourself and it’s not on a commercial basis. Please remember to credit me as the designer!
And finally…
I’d love to see your finished stockings so please share them on Instagram and Ravelry!
