Simply Boho Top
About the project / Tips
This close-fitting off-the-shoulder top features a cabled shoulder band, side cable details, and a light, airy ruffle worked in fine mohair.
The top is worked in stockinette stitch in three separate pieces and assembled at the end. I recommend crocheting a thin elastic thread onto the back of the shoulder band after finishing, to help it fit comfortably around the upper body.
The top is worked from the top down, with German Short Rows (GSR) across the bust, a braided detail along the side, and slight waist shaping. The braid is then worked back and forth, while the ruffle is worked first in the round and then back and forth with decreases.
Tips:
Customize the fit to your own body. Work the top, shoulder band, and ruffle to the measurements that fit you best. We are all different, and if you have broader or narrower shoulders, for example, you may choose to work different sizes for different sections. The top will be assembled centrally at the end regardless.
The pattern includes waist decreases, which can also be adjusted to suit your body shape in any size. Work more or fewer decreases as needed. Just keep in mind that any modifications may slightly affect the yarn requirements.
Size:
1 (2) 3 (4) 5 (6) 7
Garment measurements:
Shoulder band: 85 (90) 90 (100) 100 (110) 115 cm, or desired length.
Bust circumference approx.: 70 (75) 80 (90) 100 (110) 120 cm.
Waist circumference approx.: 63 (69) 72 (84) 96 (105) 116 cm.
Center front length approx.: 40 (42) 44 (46) 48 (50) 52 cm, or desired length.
The model in the photos is wearing size 3, usually wears a size M, and has 8 cm of negative ease at the bust.
This is a close-fitting and stretchy top.
Materials:
The top is worked using Arwetta and Tilia by Filcolana.
Both yarn qualities are held together for the top and the braid.
Use 1 strand of Tilia for the ruffle.
Arwetta: 100 (100) 150 (150) 200 (250) 300 g
Tilia: 75 (75) 100 (100) 125 (150) 150 g
If desired, you can use a thin elastic thread (approx. 0.3 mm) and crochet or sew it onto the back of the braid for additional stability.
Recommended needles:
4 mm circular needle (60 cm) for the top and braid.
4.5 mm circular needle (60 or 80 cm) for the ruffle.
Cable needle.
Gauge:
Top: 22 sts × 30 rows using 1 strand of each yarn held together on 4 mm needles = 10 cm.
Ruffle: 21 sts × 25 rows using 1 strand of Tilia on 4.5 mm needles = 10 cm
Both gauges are measured in stockinette stitch.
