I made these after becoming frustrated that all of my fingerless mitts were a touch baggy at the wrist and covered my pinkie finger more than my pointer. I wanted something with enough negative ease to fit snugly (great for wearing under fitted blouses or sweaters) but would keep me warm and snuggly. These are the perfect mitts to pull on when it’s chilly in the office, when running between the shops and the car, or while knitting, as they allow plenty of movement without a lot of fussy material getting in the way.

Yarn:
Any sock yarn will do - something fingering weight, use up those sock yarn scraps and make a scrappy pair!
In total I used about 35 grams of sock wool, so it doesn’t take much at all.

Needle(s): Size US 1 / 2.25mm 9” / 25 cm circulars and/or dpns
I found these easier to work on dpns, and you’ll probably want the dpns to work the thumb cuff.

Measurements:
I have neither particularly large or small hands, and would hazard to guess that I’m about a ladies medium/large. If you want to compare to your own hand measurements my hands around my knuckles is about 7 and ¾ inches (19 cm) circumference, and at the base of my thumb about 9 ¼ inches (23 cm) circumference

At the widest point the finished gloves measure 4 inches across (8 inches circumference) / 9.5 cm (19 cm circumference). They have approximately one inch of negative ease.

You could easily size these up or down by using different yarn weights and/or gauge needles. I’ll include my notes on how and when I determined when to hold the stitches for the thumbs, and when to begin the short rows at the top of the glove to help you determine best fit for your hands.
