You can get a FREE version of these two square patterns on my website.

When I was new to crochet I wasn’t too excited to practice by making dishcloths and you may not be either! This pattern includes both written and charted directions for making a single crochet square and a single-colour granny square, together with ideas for things you could make with them.

You can use these single crochet square and granny square patterns to make afghan blocks, or to make Sampler Squares for my Crochet scarf pattern.

And you can use the single crochet square pattern to make my Bunny from a Square.

To get started making these squares you’ll need:

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Locking stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

In addition to the written and charted square patterns useful links and resources for crochet beginners are included. For example, there are:

  • Links to blog posts with information on how to choose yarn, hooks and which notions beginners need

  • Video tutorials on my YouTube channel

  • Other useful resources for beginners
