A thick & cozy, reversible hat to keep you toasty warm.

Size/Measurements: adult small, 21” circumference x 7.5” tall

Materials:
1 ball of worsted weight yarn (approx. 100g)
(I used 80g/152m/166yds of Patons Décor
5.0mm (US H) crochet hook, or as required for tension
yarn needle for weaving ends
stitch marker(s)

Pattern Notes:

  • US crochet terms are used.
  • This stitch is worked back and forth, not truly in the round. So you could make it flat then sew it up the side. Or you could do what I do and close each “round” with a slip stitch, then turn and go back the way you just came.
  • The stitches you are making are on the opposite side of the work that’s facing you. When you are holding it with the right side facing you, the stitches you are currently making are on the wrong side.
  • I did not chain any stitches to turn, the nature of this stitch allows for this and skipping the chain makes a better edge.
  • When you get to the end of the row, make sure to get the last stitch – it will be a bit compressed and you will have to fiddle a bit to get the hook in the right place (under both back loops).
  • You can make a slightly larger or smaller hat by using larger or smaller hooks and/or yarn.

Techniques used:

Single Crochet Thermal Stitch – working single crochet, work the back loop of the current row AND the back loop 1 row below.
Here are some great videos. Please keep in mind the videos show working into a simple foundation chain and you will be skipping ahead a row because you are working into a foundation single crochet row.
