Cotton yarn is notorious for its tension issues when using it to knit patterns with cables. I discovered that by framing the cables in lacework, you can provide some slack for your cable twists and compensate for the yarn’s lack of elasticity. It creates a mesmerizing fabric that really makes the cables pop!

This pattern is a hanging wall tapestry that uses this mix of cables and lace in cotton yarn to create a striking fabric with a central motif. There are 6 large diamonds and 24 diamonds in total, organized into 5 dangling columns. It’s knit with a needle size nearly twice as large as recommended which creates a light, airy, and drapey fabric. It will look the most striking when knit with a yarn color that contrasts the wall it will hang on.

I’m using my “Six of Diamonds” photographed here as a bed headboard. The yarn color is “Narwhale”.

Pattern includes both written and chart instructions.
Also needed: 2 wooden dowels about 36” long and approx. 10mm thick, wall hanging hook
