Say hello to Skandinavia, my first colorwork mitten pattern, inspired by the Selbu rose in my logo and the Norwegian Setesdal pattern.

About the design:
This design is written out for you who already know how to knit mittens, or are comfortable knitting colorwork.

My starter recommendations to needles:

  • Small/teenager, approximately 9 cm wide: 2mm for the cuff, 2.25 mm for the mitten and thumbs.

  • Medium hand, approximately 10 cm wide: 2.5mm for the cuff, 3mm for the mitten and thumbs.

  • Large hand, Approximately 11-12 cm wide: 3mm for the cuff, 3,5 mm for the mittens and thumbs

Based on this you can play with a little variation to yarn weights as well. You may find you can knit these in DK for large hands and fingering weight for small hands.
I have very small hands and use 2mm for the rib and 2,25 for the mittens and thumbs.

This is why knitting a swatch is highly recommended, also it lets you know if you’re happy with your choice of colors!.
