♫ The Music ♫
Skibbereen is a traditional narrative song of the mid 1850s that interweaves stories of hard times and the longing for a homeland left behind.

The subtle lattice pattern of this adorable hat evolves into a spiral top that enhances the beauty of the self-patterning yarn and is perfect for those who love colour! Make this design in a solid colour and it becomes a classic.

This hat pattern uses a tubular cast-on combined with Judy’s Magic Cast-on. Internet links are provided for both static and video demonstrations of these techniques. They are not included in the pattern itself. Alternatively, you may use your own preferred stretchy cast-on method.

Two versions of the diamond pattern are included in this newly updated version:

  • Lattice Pattern 1 (multi-coloured sample) which has all the background stitches worked in Stockinette stitch, and
  • Lattice Pattern 2 (cream sample) which includes alternating Garter stitch filler for some of the diamonds.

The twisted stitches that form the cable lattice do not require a cable needle.

Both charts and written directions for the charts are provided.
