You can either use fingering weight yarn held double, or DK to worsted weight yarn held single. Use up partial skeins or small scraps to make your book sleeve as unique as possible.

This project uses up around 65 g of fingering weight yarn held double.

It´s the perfect scrap busting project and will make a wonderful gift. Even better, if there´s a book included.
