This pattern is a PDF, written in English for intermediate knitters knitting flat on two needles. It comes in two parts:

  1. General instructions, which include: Body and leg variations, assembly instructions, special stitch and technique instructions

  2. Specific animal instructions for shaping animal heads and tails, and adding animal-specific details

The skunk is one of the more difficult patterns because of the fur-stitched tail and the stripes that need to be sewn on – in the case of the tail, over the top of the fur loop stitches (which can be frustrating at times). Despite the difficulty of getting the tail and stripes right, however, this is one of my favorite patterns.

You need to have…
• Yarn in desired color and weight (~4.5oz/75g for sport weight; ~18oz/525g for worsted) mostly in dark and an amount of white for the stripes
• Dark contrast yarn for eyes
• Pink contrast yarn for nose and mouth

You need to know (or learn)…
• Stockinette stitch
• Fur or loop stitch
• Increase and decrease stitches
• Mattress stitch for sewing seams
