These mitts use a simple lace edging adapted from a pattern originally published in 1840 (and recently transcribed by Franklin Habit). The hint of ribbing in the lace is carried up through the wrist and hand, giving these mitts a sleek profile and a snug, comfortable fit for a range of hand sizes. A fully-fashioned thumb gusset is also included.

The whole project knits up surprisingly quickly, and uses only one skein of a beautiful semi-solid sock yarn.

The Sleekit Mitts would make a great gift, or the perfect way to test-drive a fancy sock yarn you’ve been wanting to check out!

More information on the edging and its history can be found in Franklin’s Knitty article here.
