This slouchy beret is perfect for chilly weather or bad hair days (or both!). The flattering shape and myriad of yarn options make this cozy and chic hat your go-to. Embellish it with a crocheted, silk, or fur flower and it’s especially beautiful!

Construction Details:
The hat is worked either on straight needles with a seam or on circular needles seamlessly. The hat is worked from the brim towards the crown. Two sizes are offered.

Techniques Necessary:

  • Cast on
  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Joining work in the round (for circular needles)
  • Increasing with a kfb increase
  • Decreasing with k2tog decrease
  • Working with DPN (for hat worked in the round)
  • Seaming (for hat worked on straight needles)
  • Weaving in ends

Size Options: Small/Medium (Large/X-Large)
Finished measurements: Brim width: 18 (20)”; width at the widest point: 30 (32)”; depth from crown to brim: 9 (10)”

Gauge: 14 stitches and 20 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch

Needles: Worked flat with a seam: US 10 (6 mm) straight needles.
Worked in the round without a seam: US 10 (6 mm) 16” circular needle, US 10 (6 mm) DPN’s. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Yarn: 135 yards (160 yards) of chunky weight yarn (CYCA #5) yarn. Samples made with Malabrigo Mecha (100% pure merino superwash wool, 130 yds/100 g) and Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash (100% superwash merino wool, 128 yds/100 g).
