This fun hat combines several techniques to make it both interesting to knit and a real show stopper for men, women, and children. Corrugated ribbing contributes to a nice fit, and is written out in the instructions. The simple mosaic colorwork is both charted and written, which may just help you become comfortable with reading a chart. The hat has straight sides with a flat top that really shows off a gradient yarn.

Sizes
Child (17” diameter) and Adult (19” diameter) finished. One to three inches of negative ease will usually give a comfortable fit.

Yarn
The hat is designed with one solid and one gradient sport weight yarn. In the man’s hat I’ve used Berroco Quechua and Spincycle Dyed in the Wool. You may be able to get gauge with a combination of sport and fingering weight. The pattern repeat is 10 stitches wide. Less than 50 grams is all that is needed of each color.

Notions
Requires both a circular and set of double-pointed needles in the same size.
Stitch marker for end of row
Darning needle

Education
YouTube videos by Suzanne Bryan are very helpful if you’re new to mosaic colorwork.

Printing
One small color photo is in the pattern and the chart is small to facilitate ease of printing.
