SLUGCORE is an oversized sweater knit in chunky mohair held double. Using size 17 needles makes this a super quick sweater knit. The almost distressed look of the loose gauge and stripes are inspired by the grunge aesthetics of the late 80s and early 90s. Use #SLUGCORESWEATER and tag me on Instagram @JamesNWatts.

YARN
Purl Soho Brume
58% mohair, 25% wool, and 17% silk
273 yards (250 meters) per 50 gram skein
My sample was sample was knit in Lucky Green (Color A) and Electric Lapis (Color B)

SLUGCORE is knit in Purl Soho Brume held double. Brume is a fuzzy mohair yarn that is slightly thicker than many other fuzzy mohair yarns. If you would like to substitute a different mohair, you might try triple stranding it to achieve a similar fabric. I also think a baby suri alpaca yarn could look lovely held double in this pattern. If you don’t have access to Brume, I suggest using mohair from your stash, Knitpicks Mohair, Valley Yarns Mohair, Qing Fibre Melted Baby Suri, or try knitting this pattern with scrap yarn held together! Whichever yarn you choose, knit a swatch to determine gauge and see how you like the fabric you get. Be aware that if you use heavier typical wool yarns, rather than light weight fuzzy yarns like mohair and alpaca, your sweater may end up draping vertically in a way where it is longer and not so oversized.
