The Slumber Blanket came to because of the arrival of a dear friend’s baby. I wanted to make something quickly, found yarn in my stash, worked out a color plan, and got to work!

The pattern is easy and fun to knit, featuring all over garter stitch and frequent color changes to keep the interest.

It’s a modular knit using a join-as-you-go technique, so you don’t have to seam it together afterwards, and you’re sure to keep good flexibility in the textile.

If you also knit in the ends as you go you have only two ends to weave in!

As this is a blanket, the gauge is not crucial, and I urge you to use whatever yarn you have in your stash, rather than buying new.

The design has a lot of small squares that only require a few grams of yarn each, which means you can use very small left overs.

There’s a diagram included with a suggestion for the amount of garter ridges and stitches per column, which you can also use as a coloring sheet, so you can test out your own combinations.

By popular demand, some wanted to make it into a scarf, so as a bonus, I’ve included a hack for that in the pattern!
