Søm means “seam” in Norwegian and Danish. I chose this name because the hat intentionally highlights its construction lines, as if each seam were an aesthetic detail rather than something to be hidden. The word also evokes the strength, precision, and minimalist style of Scandinavian design, which perfectly aligns with the spirit of this piece.

Small – Head circumference of 46 to 51 cm (18 to 20 in).
Medium – Head circumference of 51 to 56 cm (20 to 22 in).
Large – Head circumference of 56 to 61 cm (22 to 24 in).

Knit in the round in stockinette stitch with 1 strand of Sport weight yarn and 1 strand of Lace weight yarn, on 4 mm (US 6) needles.
24 stitches x 32 rows = 10.16 cm (4 in) after blocking.

• 4 mm (US 6) circular needles with a 40 cm / 16 in cable.
• You will need double-pointed needles of the same size if you are not using the “magic loop” method for decreases.
• Stitch markers: 1 marker in a different color to distinguish the beginning of the round, plus 3 additional markers to separate sections.
• A tapestry needle.

Søm signifie « couture » en norvégien et en danois. J’ai choisi ce nom parce que le bonnet met volontairement en valeur ses lignes de construction, un peu comme si chaque couture devenait un détail esthétique qu’on ne cherche pas à cacher. Le mot évoque aussi la solidité, la précision et l’allure minimaliste des créations scandinaves, ce qui correspond bien à l’esprit du design.
