Small Blocks is a colourful fun blanket for baby. The centre features small blocks of purl fabric set into a stocking stitch background. Some of these blocks are worked in the main colour and some are worked using intarsia in one of four contrasting colours.

The blanket is mostly worked in one piece, beginning with the bottom garter stitch border. The side borders are picked up and worked once the main blanket piece is finished. The borders are mitred for a neat finish and feature a simple two-colour mosaic section.

The pattern includes detailed instructions on working the simple 5-stitch, 6-row intarsia blocks.

This baby blanket requires average to intermediate knitting skills.

The intarsia method of colourwork is used when there are sections of stand-alone colour that are not repeated across the piece. The yarn is not stranded across the back of the work but separate balls of yarn are used for each section of colour.
In this blanket, 100cm/40ins lengths of the contrast colours and separate balls of M are used for each section of colour.
