When our children were born we counted their toes and their fingers. We marveled at their tiny tummies and took note of their birthmarks. We noticed where they were “normal” and
where they were “different”, and we treasured them all the same because they were ours and perfect in our eyes. We dressed them in soft cloth, and we snuggled for hours ( and hours and hours). In our minds we hold snapshots of these moments untouched by the present no matter how long ago our children were new: the eye gazing, the sleep smiles, the
middle-of-the-nights alone together. It’s the small things we remember, the small things we keep forever in our treasure chests, and it’s these same small things we hope to have the
chance to pass on to our children when their children are new.

Small Things is a timeless design for babies knit from top down with a clever self-border edge and slipped stitch details. Both romper & sweater patterns include 7 sizes (NB-2T) and 4 finishing styles including the option to for bunting style fold-over mitts and footies! These comprehensive patterns are appropriate for intermediate knitters or the advanced beginner wanting to stretch a little. (A matching bonnet pattern is also available)

Materials
Yarn: In worsted to aran weight yarn you will need approximately 290 (310, 330, 360, 390, 430, 460) yards or 260 (280, 300, 325, 350, 390, 415) meters for a romper with short sleeves and short pants or 365 (390, 420, 455, 495, 540, 580) yards or 330 (350, 380, 410, 445, 485, 520) meters for a romper with long sleeves and pants. If you choose a contrasting color yarn for the button band and hem, it should be about 20% of your total yardage.

Needles: Double pointed needles (or needles appropriate for your preferred method of small circumference circular knitting) and a circular needle in US size 8 (or size required to obtain gauge). For sizes up to 12 months, a 16” length will work well. A 24” length will work better for the larger sizes.

Additionally, double pointed needles two sizes smaller than that required to obtain gauge will be necessary if you wish to knit the Eyelet Ruffle or the Grow-With-Me Ribbed cuffs.

Notions: Scrap yarn, 4 stitch markers, 2 buttons about ¾” - 1” in diameter, darning needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge
In stockinette stitch 19 sts and 24-25 rows = 4” using the larger needle size.
