The Smoked Orange Cardigan is all about deep texture and vibrant color. I really enjoyed the contrast between the two elements in this combination and I just love how striking this simple cardigan is. With that in mind, I kept the details to a minimum, so the attention would remain on the texture. A deep button band, an intentional hem, and bold lines along the front opening work perfectly here.

Smoked Orange is worked flat from the bottom up in one piece then split at armholes into two fronts and the back, which are worked to shoulders. Once shoulders are seamed, sleeve stitches are picked up around armholes and worked in the round to cuff. Two small strips are worked upwards from shoulders and joined at back neck to finish to the edging before button band is picked up around the front opening and worked flat to end.

Note that my sleeves have a loose, easy fit and the body on my sweater is boxy and cropped, but the pattern is written with notes so you can modify your fit in both the body and sleeves as you like.

As always, cable instructions are both charted and written.

Midwinter Black and Blue Yarn
This is a limited edition yarn from Midwinter Yarns. The beautiful natural gray is currently in stock and there will be dyed-to-order quantities available next week on Monday 1/15/24. We wanted to give you a little time to plan ahead, but please know this is a small batch yarn and quantities will be limited.

Specific details on the update will be shared here, as well as on Instagram and in my newsletter.

If you find this pattern in the future after this batch of the Midwinter Black and Blue is gone, a number of alternate yarns are noted above, and know that Estelle does get more of this yarn in stock from time to time when she can get her hands on the yearly clip!

As noted above, the Midwinter Black and Blue DK is a limited edition yarn. Easily available substitute yarns are suggested above, and you can also check the test knits for other suggestions. One of my testers used a speckle and another did a gorgeous fade and it’s also stunning with a yarn that adds more halo! Be sure to swatch alternate yarns for gauge and to be sure you like how they look in pattern.
